Thanks for Nothing Anita

Liberal MP Anita Neville was on Marty Gold’s radio show last week. During same, she feigned righteous indignation that a Conservative MP dare suggest that our city has a problem with crime. We are, after all, an artistic and cultural centre.

Anita, I would just like you to know that TWO members of my family were victims of attempted car thefts/break-ins this weekend. The incidents occurred within HOURS of each other on the SAME day. The only member of my family that HASN’T fallen victim to this type of crime is the one that resides in another province. Some of us, myself included, have had this happen on more than one occasion.

While I appreciate our city’s great arts scene, I would appreciate it more if I didn’t have to deal with the broken windshield and smashed locks that occur while I am taking in the performance.

It's nuts out there. You can't even go to the casino without worrying about someone chopping you in the back of the head with a meat cleaver, which by the way was stolen from the kitchen at Mcphillips Street Station. I have seen people get mad over losing, but that is taking it to a whole new level.

I also want to add I have had my window smashed twice in the last 12 months and each time I did not report it to autopac, I went and bought used windows and put them in myself.Wonder how many others do the same. Lots of unreported crimes out there.

It's funny I have lived downtown for 14 years and never had one problem with crime. Maybe they target only Tories?

Perhaps because you don't own a car ? Many dippers can't afford one. Consider yourself very lucky for not being a victim of crime downtown.

LOL - I don't own a car because I live and work downtown - don't need one. Dippers can't afford cars? I thought they were all over-paid Union hacks - You should try injecting a little logical consistency into your rhetoric.

One of the victims has chosen not to report the crime, so the stats will in fact be lower. A friend of mine also decided not to report a similar break-in about a year ago.

Winnipeggers now seem to shrug their shoulders whenever incidents like these happen. It has become so commonplace that violating someone in this mannner is now a social norm or an accepted cost of living here.

We need more Sam Katz's acknowledging there is a problem and less Anita Neville's pretending it doesn't exist.
